Reshini Premaratne - WAGMI Women of the Week

Reshini Premaratne - Previously U.S. Treasury, Joining Boston Consulting Group

Reshini is this week’s WAGMI women of the week! She is a policy advisor, soon-to-be management consultant who is driven by 2 things: (1) bringing more women & non-binary people to the web3 space, and (2) making crypto-law and policy more accessible.

Reshini just finished up a stint at U.S. Treasury, working to stand up the Department’s new Office of Recovery Programs to centralize and deploy federal funding for COVID relief. At the same time, she was helping the global non-profit, Peace First, fundraise a $500,000 fund and leading events & operations at a web3 start-up, We3. Her true passion, though, is making complex legal topics and policy developments understandable and accessible to all of web3. So, Reshini and her sister, Inesha, founded The Law Layer, which sends out a weekly newsletter and daily tweets providing digestible bits on all things legal in web3. Ultimately, Reshini is driven by increasing financial inclusion and access — which drives her passion for women & emerging markets in web3.

Q. What was the first coin or NFT you bought? The first coin I bought was ETH last fall and my first NFTs were actually gifted to me by MAVION world & MyBFF.

Q. If you were given $1k, what coin or NFT would you be buying more of? ETH! Given the bear market and my firm belief in the future of web3, I would definitely lean in, buy the dip, and hodl!

Q. Any new crypto, NFT projects or artists you are excited for? As someone who studied and worked in economic policy for underserved communities, I have always loved and been excited about how crypto and web3 can change the game for emerging markets and communities without many financial opportunities. I am studying to a few countries in East Africa this summer to assess some of the case studies of web3 applications in these environments and I can’t wait to see what I find!

Q. What is a piece of advice you would like to give to others that are just starting out? I am pretty new this space (have been here for just about a year) and already feel that I have learned so much. You are NOT too late! Join now. Just try it out, buy a coin, check out some NFTs, join a DAO. There are also ways to get involved that require no financial risk so you can just explore the space. Do not let the fear of being too late keep you from at least giving it a try!

Q. Fav influencer that we should follow? Since I practically live on Twitter… @SocialGoodBiz, @jchervinsky, @RonwHammond, @TuongvyLe12 & so many more!

Q. Anything else happening with your own project that our community should know about? My true passion right now is for a project I am working on with my badass lawyer-sister called The Law Layer. Regulation & legislation is coming to the web3 space and we understand how critical it is to understand and navigate that for businesses, consumers & builders alike. So, we make crypto-law and policy easy to understand for everyone with a weekly newsletter and daily tweets. Check us out!
