Elana Dickman - Investor at Red Beard Ventures
For this week’s WAGMI women of the week, meet Elana (aka TradingFemale on Twitter): she is an entrepreneur, investor, and creator.
Elana is currently an investor at Red Beard Ventures, a venture fund dedicated to building the future of Web3. She also supports the Red Beard Ventures syndicate of over 3,100 members which has invested over $40M in 90+ companies including Dapper Labs, Genies, Unstoppable Domains, and Wilder World. Elana founded The Girls Table, a podcast and dinner series for women entrepreneurs, investors, and creators. Elana has spoken at VeeCon, NFT NYC, NFT LA, and SXSW. Prior to her role in venture and as a founder, she was a sales leader at FloQast, a multibillion-dollar start-up transforming financial infrastructure. She started her career at two of the top consulting firms and has her CPA and masters in accounting.
Q. What was the first coin or NFT you bought? The first coin I bought was ETH back in 2017. The first NFT I got was actually a free one from an art gallery out in Venice called Bright Moments. I had to pay for gas, and I walked out of the Gallery wondering why I just spent $40 on a JPEG.
Q. If you were given $1k, what coin or NFT would you be buying more of? Right now I would buy more BTC and ETH. I think although we are in a bear market, there are so many opportunities.
Q. Any new crypto, NFT projects or artists you are excited for? Wow there are so many. Being in venture capital, right now I am most excited about the infrastructure behind Web3, and what is going to bring in the next 100M individuals in the space (hopefully more Women as well). Unstoppable Domains is making a huge presence in enabling access to your digital identity and Limewire is helping to make investing in music NFTs and enter token gated communities with artists easy.
Q. What is a piece of advice you would like to give to others that are just starting out? The first step is to try. I always learn by doing and in this industry, sometimes you need to try and fail to try again. But don't be scared to take some risk. I would also tell anybody just starting out to stay curious because there is a lot to learn and also a lot of noise.
