Evîn Cheikosman - Policy Analyst, Crypto Impact and Sustainability Accelerator (CISA)

Evin is a Policy Analyst for the World Economic Forum's Crypto Impact & Sustainability Accelerator (CISA) where she drives project delivery, content strategy, and thought leadership for CISA's environment work. She recently created and is leading CISA's Crypto Sustainability Coalition which aims to pull siloed efforts from across the web3 space into a cohesive narrative on crypto’s capacity to be a leader in sustainability, as well as to better inform regulation at the nexus of crypto and climate in the future.

Q. What was the first coin or NFT you bought? My first coin was Bitcoin and my first NFT was Women and Weapons.

Q. If you were given $1k, what coin or NFT would you be buying more of? I would use that money to invest in projects that are spearheading positive climate impact. Top of mind for me is AEternals NFT. Firstly, I love the thoughtfulness, creativity and cycle of impact behind this project. Second, 5% of the minting profits go directly to Rainforest Partnership- how cool is that?! I’m really excited to see the emergence of projects like this that are reimagining what impact looks like- especially for some of the legacy sustainability challenges burdening our generation and biodiversity.

Q. What is a piece of advice you would like to give to others that are just starting out? Stay curious, enjoy the process and always do your research. Also, try to learn about and invest in projects that celebrate your community and/or are spearheading meaningful impact on the social, economic or political issues that are important to you.

Q. Any advice you can give others for fairing the bear market? Newsflash- crypto is cyclical not dead! This is a time of recalibration so I’d advise using it as an opportunity to investigate both new and old projects, elevate and build relationships with those you admire who are also innovating in this industry, and lastly, improve on current ventures that you care deeply about. Once the market picks up, you’ll be ready to dominate the next bull run.

Q. Fav influencer that we should follow? For podcasts I really like Money Reimagined which is co-hosted by Sheila Warren of the Crypto Council for Innovation and Michael Casey of CoinDesk. I’m currently reading The New Map by Daniel Yergin and Check your Financial Privilege by Alex Gladstein. Both well written books authored by experts who provide evidence-based thought leadership at the nexus of energy markets, geopolitics and financial inclusion.

Q. Anything else happening with your own project that our community should know about? I’m pulling together a podcast on crypto sustainability that will be housed on the World Economic Forum’s platform- super excited for this! Here we’ll explore the positive externalities that web3 technologies can create for the environment, and address the potential risks associated with this space as well as share use-cases that foster a more productive and data-driven thought experiment on this innovative ecosystem. Stay tuned!
