What inspired you to jump into the world of Web3?
I entered web3 in a roundabout way. I was working on a startup when I reached out to someone local who during our discussions kept insisting I invest in Bitcoin. At the time I was a Chief Compliance Officer, so I initially ignored his request, but decided to do my own research and the rest is history. I fell in love with the tech first.
What is the mission of the upcoming International Women of Blockchain (IWB) Conference?
We are bringing the global community of women in Web3 and Metaverse together during woman's history month to celebrate, show representation and encourage more women to join. Our mission:
Give Women in Web3 a Voice by centering women speakers
Bring people together and create opportunities to network and build connections
Onboard students into web3 and metaverse
Educate the global community about the value of DEI in Web3
Present a different perspective of individuals building in Web3 & Metaverse
Why is engaging more women in Web3 so important to you?
I'm a mom who wants to build a foundation where we don't repeat the same issues we have in Web2. This ecosystem is at the infancy stage where every input and every voice should be considered. I want to make sure, as women, we get a chance to actually create something that benefits us as well as the future generation. We've seen what happens when the guys run things, it's time for women to lead the future and be encouraged to build.
Every day there are developments in crypto, what is one thing that you are very excited about as you look toward the future?
This is one of those rare times that we are living through monumental history. What is build now could shape our future. I'm grateful to be living through this and want to do my part to encourage women to build. So to sum it up I'm excited about women having a chance to change and impact the future.
What else can you tell us about the IWB conference and how can our community get involved?
IWB conference is our signature annual Web3 and Metaverse event which will take place in DC, March 22-24th at the MGM National Harbor. This is our 3rd annual conference which will spotlight international women in the blockchain ecosystem (e.g., Crypto, NFT, DAO, DeFi, Metaverse). The theme of the 3-day conference is “Building A Diverse Future” with an emphasis on onboarding more students into the blockchain/web3 and more. IWB2023 has been curated to center women and promote DEI in Web3 and Metaverse. The conference will challenge and empower conference participants to break barriers, shift mindsets, and champion women and the younger generation to enter the blockchain landscape. The conference will have content-rich sessions, exhibitions, breakout sessions, networking, job fair, exclusive VIP event and more. The last day of the conference we will host a Gala to honor innovators/pioneers and allies in blockchain/web3. We encourage everyone to purchase tickets and join us. We have discounted reserved rooms at the hotel. Also, we are still seeking sponsors and vendors.
